My Child Has Died

My 13-year-old daughter died in an explosion in 2020, the year she was supposed to be confirmed. At that time, she was living in a children’s home.

I received no compensation, and I have contacted and written to the municipality several times, but nothing happens. What should I do?

Answer

Dear you,

What a sad story you carry with you, and it sounds like a very traumatic experience.

It must leave deep scars, and I can imagine that this time of year with confirmations in Greenland can bring up grief and memories once again.

Regarding your issue with compensation, unfortunately, we at Aliasoqatit cannot assist with inquiries to the municipality and do not have knowledge about compensation.

If you live in Nuuk, I recommend trying to attend one of the café evenings organized by Aliasoqatit. You can read more about them here: https://aliasoqatit.gl/da/cafeaftner/
